The 100 cities, which were selected based on violent and property crime rates, represent 18 states. However, the states with the most cities listed include New Jersey (30 cities), Connecticut (14 cities), Pennsylvania (10 cities), New York (8 cities) and Illinois (8 cities).
Here are the three Westchester cities that made the cut:
- No. 4: Harrison
With a population of 28,480 and a median income of $117,453, Harrison Town takes the number four spot on the safest cities list, up from number 48 last year. Harrison has a violent crime rate of just .035 per 1,000 residents and a property crime rate of 4.073.
- No. 78: Bedford
As a new addition to the safest cities list, Bedford has a population of 17,997 and a median income of $121,797. The low violent crime rate of .278 and property crime rate of 2.056 certainly give Bedford the potential to continue moving up the list in the coming years.
- No. 97: Rye
Toward the end of the list is Rye, with a population of 16,021 and a median income of $78,245. The town has a violent crime rate of .312 and a property crime rate of 4.557. Though Bedford was ranked at number 55 last year, it still holds a spot on the list and has the possibility to improve once again for next year.
